These are special! Acadians loved log cabin variants for their cotonnade. In every Cajun quilt I've documented, there has been at least a little of this color and weave pattern. This particular design is inspired by a Cajun spinner and weaver, Kay Bates. One of the few women to continue spinning and weaving brown cotton in the mid 20th century, Kay sold towels like these and also enjoyed demonstrating at festivals. She was at the first Folklife Festival on the National Mall in D.C. with Gladys Clark in 1969. Next to the mirror image stripe patterns, it doesn't get more traditional Cajun weaving than this!
